How often to change air filter? Changing air filters should be done at least every two to three months, (4 to 8 weeks). 2. Always look for dust and debris elements from the outside

Furnaces has its own filter that protects the machine from unwanted dirt. Make sure that you clean it up with dry material first before soaking it with water. Dusts and debris will more likely clog your filter when they get watered.

If you are not cleaning your furnace system, dust and debris could be pushed through into your air circulation at home and could damage your equipment.

3. Vacuum and brush inside for better cleaning

Turn the power off and open the casing of your furnace. Use a vacuum to safely suck in dusts and dirt from your furnace system. Use a flashlight to see the inside and spot dirt for better cleaning.

You can also use a brush to clean hard to reach parts on the furnace. Brush it gently to avoid pinching and disconnecting important parts from the board and the compartment.

4. Inspect, clean and repair air ducts

Clean your ducts by using a vacuum cleaner with an HEPA filter. The filtered vacuum mechanism will collect all the dusts and dirt from your ducts and stop them from getting in to your home air. If your system utilizes a humidifier, you should also clean it with a vacuum and a de-scaler.

Also, check for leaks on your ductwork and patch them by using special metal tapes or high temperature silicone. For unrepairable damages, you should consult with an HVAC specialist if you need to replace a specific part.

5. Inspect the fan and motor blade for damages
